Response to a List of Obama's Accomplishments

Recently a list of President Obama's so called "accomplishments" has been circulating around several of my friends status updates on Facebook. It reads as follows:

“MY PRESIDENT:
1. Got Osama bin laden...check
2. Unemployment rate 8.5%...check.
3. 1.6 million jobs created with no GOP help...check
4. 22 months of job and economic growth with no help...check
5. Ended war in Iraq ...check
6. DADT repeal...check
7. Not one tax hike in 3 years....check
8. Brought out of racism in the Gop...check
9. Still carry 80% of the black vote...check
10. Same wife for 19 years with no extra marital affairs...check
11. Save auto industry and 1.5 million jobs.. check
12. Assisted in ousting Khaddafi...check
13. Only active President to receive Nobel Peace prize while in office.
14. Mortgage modification to prevent home owners from losing their home.
15. STILL fighting for middle class families.
16. Reform Affordable healthcare.... check
Despite what the GOP would have you believe the President has been doing these things and more by himself.
Obama 2012- Re-post to support!!

Here is my response.

1. True, but it's not like another president wouldn't have done the same. He wasn't the one personally scouring the intel to pinpoint his location he was just told "we think we know where to find him, should we pull the trigger?" Anyone could have done that.
2. Actual unemployment is much higher, 8.5% takes out all the people who have been unemployed so long they've stopped looking and no longer count. Also, Obama promised it would never exceed 9% if his stimulus passed, and it was over 9% for almost 2 straight years.
3. Debatable, because we don't know how many jobs would have existed under different policies. CBO projections are often wrong, and  they can't predict the outcomes of policies that were never implemented/proposed.
4. See #3.
5. Ha. Yeah, but against his wishes! He promised to end it immediately, but then kept it going for 3 years and only then pulled out because the Iraqi government threatened to throw US soldiers in jail. He wanted to stay longer.
6. Ho-ah! :)
7. Depends how you define tax hike. If you mean the increase to the percentages of income tax levels, well sure. But he raised lots of other "taxes" by imposing fines and penalties for doing things he doesn't like, such as not buying health insurance. If you don't do anything illegal or immoral and you still have to give the government your money, it's pretty much a tax. Besides, he tried to let the Bush tax cuts expire and promised to in last years SOTU address, so even that hardly counts.
8. Oh please. That's ridiculous. Anybody who opposes Obama is a racist?
9. Considering the Democratic Party got nearly 90% of the black vote in 2004, that's not all that impressive.
10. When not cheating on your wife is cited as a presidential accomplishment, you know your party still bases its standards on Clinton.
11. This is also called "perpetuating crony capitalism by sending the message that if you want guaranteed success, become to big to fail." He did not save the industry, saving it would mean letting it fail and rebuild. He's only delayed it's demise.
12. See #1.
13. Yeah, after two months in office when he hadn't even done anything yet. While he continued to fight two wars and eventually added two more in Libya and Yemen. Real peaceful.
14. Moral of the story: If you're a big bank who lends out risky loans and loses, you're too big to fail and get rewarded with a bailout. If you're a small family who took out a loan you knew you couldn't repay to live in a house you knew you couldn't afford, you're too small to fail and get to keep the house anyway. Nobody's allowed to lose, apparently...except the taxpayers, of course. And the young people like us who will inherit all that debt. We lose big time.
15. By inflating and devaluing their money, over-regulating and overtaxing their employers, and perpetuating class warfare?
16. Don't even get me started...

  1. 1. It was much more complicated than that and you know that. They only had a 30% knowledgeable base to go from. Actually, the top intelligence officers suggested that he should not pull the trigger and should wait.
    2. I'm not quite sure about the factual proof where President Obama promised it would not exceed 9% if his stimulus package was passed. Maybe I'm looking in the wrong place.
    3. Yep.
    4. See #3.
    5. I wish he would have pulled out of Iraq sooner as well, but he shouldn't take the blame for that honestly. Some might say if President Obama decided to pull out right away that it would show the world we were wrong or that we were weak. I wish he would have done it anyway even though he walk right into the middle of it.
    6. Anyone that appreciates civil liberties respects that. Anyone that fought against it..? Eh.
    7. I have no idea. I would like to see more about that actually.
    8. No, not everyone that opposes President Obama is a racist. However, I believe the people that say that often misunderstand the GOP's political agenda. It is practically undeniable to say that their political agenda does not favor the white establishment as it stands now. In general terms, it favors the people who have the money now or have always had the money. In no way is that racist. It's just how their agenda favors people. If blacks had been in that position, their agenda would favor them.
    9. He carried more than 80%...91% this election. I don't know where that 80% number comes from.
    10. I agree. That isn't an accomplishment. Lets not forget Gingrich's hypocritical attacks on Clinton whilst he was doing the same thing though.
    11. This is yet to be seen. I also need to find out more about this.
    12. Seemed like he helped?
    13. I never thought he deserved it. Although, if he closes down Guantanamo Bay in his second term and pushes same-sex marriage legislation while preventing war with Iran. He would have a chance to be nominated. I never understood why he deserved it just because he got into office. I do realize the civil rights success there, but Nobel Peace Prize? Please.
    14. Interesting enough. I really need to look into the economical information more.
    15. Class warfare? Class self-defense maybe.
    16. It should be a single-payer universal health care system.
